Douglas S. Cody, MA, CSP, CSHM
Douglas S. Cody, MA, CSP, CSHM, is the Departmental Safety Officer and Professor of Chemistry for the Chemistry Department at Nassau Community College (NCC). In addition he is a member of the Chemistry Department faculties of Farmingdale State and Suffolk Community Colleges. He holds a Masters degree in Environmental Studies and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from SUNY Stony Brook, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Long Island University and an Associate in Science degree in Chemistry from Nassau Community College.
He is a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) in Comprehensive Practice and a Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM). He is a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and is Past President of the Long Island Chapter. He is the past Chair of NYSUT's Health & Safety Task Force and currently is the Assistant Newsletter Editor for the ASSE Industrial Hygiene Division. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Industrial Hygiene Association, Laboratory Safety Institute, National Safety Management Society, and the SUNY Environmental Health and Safety Association. He is the recipient of the American Society of Safety Engineers Safety Professional of the Year, Chapter Achievement and Lovell Safety Management Awards and the New York State Chancellor's Award for Professional Excellence.

1. Why you would like to be an ISHM Board Member
Response: My motto throughout my professional life has always been to share and give back when you can. Therefore, I believe that all us who have knowledge and experience in their professions should volunteer for the organizations which ultimately make their professions what they are in terms of credibility and respect by others. Therefore, I believe that my years of having been a safety professional and taken leadership roles in other organization makes me more than qualified to represent ISHM.
2. What skills and experience that you will bring to the board to enhance the organization and the CSHM / ASHM certifications.
Response: My background is quite varied. I possess knowledge in many scientific fields. I have managed a laboratory operation, written college level curricula, authored chemistry laboratory books, consulted to school districts and libraries, just to name a few areas of experience. Since, I have been an officer, including President of the Long Island ASSE, held a statewide position as Chair of a H&S Task Force and continue to be involved nationally with the ASSE, I believe I have the requisite skills necessary to work with my colleagues towards continuegrowth and improvement in the ISHM.
